Town Prove Too Hot To Handle


Mitchelstown 2-16   Glanmire 0-10 

Mitchelstown intermediate footballers made it two wins from two and guaranteed themselves a place in the last eight of the Cork County intermediate football championship when they overcame Glanmire at an excellent Lisgoold venue on Sat evening last. 

Played in sweltering conditions Mitchelstown opened the scoring with two points in the fourth and fifth minutes from the boot of Shane Beston. Glanmire answered with two similar scores. It took Mitchelstown 10 minutes to register their next score with white flags from S Walsh and a C O Mahony free. A Glanmire point a J Sheehan point followed by a second C O Mahony free left the half time score 0-6 to 0-3. Glanmire were first to open the scoring in the second half with a point but in a five minute spell Mitchelstown with points from J O Sullivan,D Dineen and S Walsh followed by an opportunist goal from C O Mahony left the score 1-09 to 0-4. From the 6th to the 10th minute Glanmire completely dominate and had four points without reply. Points from S Beston,C O Mahony and J Sheehan with a solitary reply from Glanmire left the three quarter way score 1-13 to 0-09. Mitchelstown completely dominate the last quarter registering 1-03 to finish out convincing winners. Team L Hannah,J Mullins,F Herlihy,K Roche,J O Sullivan (0-1)  P Molloy, C Hyland, P McGee,  M Keane, D Dineen (0-1)  ,S Beston (0-3) , S Walsh (0-2) ,C O Mahony (2-07, 0-5 frees),S Kenneally, J Sheehan (0-2). Blistering Scores in Blistering Conditions

Mick Lewis was definitely looking down on Mitchelstown Gaa last weekend with scorching conditions for the two days of the event. The winning score of 68 points from I.T.W. consisting of S Morrisey, Siobhain Fitzpatrick and James Hayes defeating Hodgins Sausages on a back three countback represented by Noel Mannery, Mickey Conway and Batt Power. Three four pointers in single holes proved to be the difference between the teams which even a magificent eagle at the 16th by Mickey Conway was not enough to get over the line Third place in a team sponsored by former player Darren Nugent and represented by T Nugent,S Howard and Johnny McCarthy with 66 points. Fourth place went to long time friends of Mick Lewis,Killeagh Gaa with R Rochford,T Roche and C Condon lining out. The gross prize went to Brian Shinnick of Spar Fermoy  represented by Stefan WelchRoy O Riordan and Phillip Ahlo.The non gui section was one by the CK team represented by T lewis, M Waldron and C Kiely, in second place was Walsh’s Bar with G O Keefe,J Boland and J Cleary the players. Longest Drive gents went to Dan O Leary playing with the Wiistream team with the ladies going to Brid Seymour representing Laya. Nearest to the pin was Billy Finn. Raffle Prizes Midleton V.R Dolores Keane, Horgan’s Hamper Sean Farrell SuperValu, Corbett Court Voucher Eibhlin O Brien, Wine Liam Daniels ,Market Place Voucher Gary Colman, Todays Man Voucher Brenda Courtney, Corbett Court Voucher Ger Sherlock c/o K Sweeney, Wine  Fiadh Courtney, Table  Platter Board Gemma Price. Field Development Lotto Jackpot €6,600


The next draw will take place in Walsh’s Yard Bar on this Thursday night August 18th   with a jackpot of €6,600.  Previous Numbers drawn were 7,10,20 and 22. with no jackpot winner despite a few people matching three and coming close. Congratulations to all in Horgan’s Delicatessen supplies on the huge success they had in the UK Great Taste Awards 2022 receiving no less than three awards in this prestigious event.Their wards were for their Duo Of Olives, Mixed Red and Yellow peppers and the classic Bell Pesto. 


Gaa For All

A Gaa for all camp will take place, a camp which is designed for all children with additional needs will take place at Mitchelstown Gaa pitch on Saturday August 20th from 10-30 to 12-30.
