Mitchelstown 2-18  Millstreet 0-5

Mitchelstown footballers recorded a comprehensive opening round win in the Bon Secours Cork County Intermediate Football championship against Millstreet at an excellent Ballyclough venue on Sunday evening last.Mitchelstown opened brightly and white flags from Shane Beston (2) C O Mahony (0-3),S Cahill  and D Dineen with  just a two point  reply from Millstreet  left the score at the end of the first quarter 0-7 to 0-2.Millstreet quickly tagged on a white flag but alas it was to be their last score of the half as Mitchelstown with a brace of goals and points from the boot of O Mahony along with white flags from J Sheehan and S Cahill put the game well beyond the men from Duhallow as the short whistle score read 2-11 to 0-3. As was to be expected the tempo in the second half nowhere near matched that of the first as Mitchelstown had the opening three points courtesy of J Sheehan P McGee and S Cahill. Millstreet to their credit  kept battling and raised two white flags whilst Mitchelstown kept the scoreboard ticking over with points from substitute A O Brien, P McGee, S Walsh and J O Sullivan to run out convincing winners.. Their will be tougher games ahead with next up Glanmire on Saturday August 13th in Lisgoold at 7pm but for now a job well done.Team L Hannah, K Roche, F Herlihy, J Mullins, C Hyland, P Molloy, J O Sullivan (0-1), P McGee (0-2) M Keane, D Dineen (0-1) S Beston (0-2) S Walsh (0-1) J Sheehan (0-2) S Cahill (0-3) C O Mahony (2-5) Subs Used R Donegan for J Mullins (inj) A O Brien (0-1) for S Beston, S Kenneally for D Dineen.
