Cork County Football League

Mitchelstown 0-17  Ballyvourney 3-09

Mitchelstown footballers made the 90km journey to Ballyvourney on St Patricks Morning to take on the host club. The old saying that the concession of goals in football matches make it hard to recover were definitely true in this encounter. From the throw in without a Mitchelstown player touching the ball Ballyvourney raised their first of three green flags. Both sides then exchanged points before a dominant spell saw town score three unanswered points to leave the sides level. Mitchelstown had the advantage of a stiff breeze and scored eight points to the oppositions three to leave the half time score 0-12 to 1-04. The restart saw Ballyvourney add 1-01 in as many minutes to leave just the minimum between the sides. Both sides worked hard but it was Mitchelstown were in the driving seat and took a three point lead in the final ten minutes but alas it was the home team who finished the stronger and with 32 minutes on the clock we conceded our third goal to loose by the narrowest of margins.

Cavanagh’s Of Fermoy Div Three Football League

Mitchelstown 1-04  Doneraile 2-04

In a game of may squandered opportunities we went under to a strong Doneraile team on Sat evening last. Mitchelstown led by 1-0 to 0-1. Both sides found it hard to score and were level at half time 1-02 each thanks to a great penalty save by Tadgh Nolan. The second half saw no great improvement in the scoring stakes but Doneraile 1-02 to Mitchelstown’s 0-2 saw the visitors gather the points.

Congratulations

Huge congratulations to Michelle Sweeney (albeit we hear Karl bough the ticket) on winning the jackpot of €4,900 in the Park Utd lotto last Monday night.

Who Would Have Thought?

Take your self back two years just before this pandemic hit who would have thought that Mitchelstown and Ballygiblin would have players not alone lining out but both scoring at senior intercounty level. Starting at 1pm on Sunday Cathail O Mahony had three points from play for the Cork senior footballers against Down and a few hours later Mark Keane would be scoring for the hurlers down in Wexford, the stuff dreams are made of for this writer, huge congratulations Cathail and Mark.
