Mitchelstown’s Keane Makes His Mark

If Hans Christian Anderson wrote the story that was to finish in a rain sodden Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday evening last it would not have been believable. Mark Keane left for Australia’s shores two years ago two ply his trade in the AFL with a two-year rookie contract with Collingwood. Mark made his senior debut with Collingwood in 2020 and on his return home for the off season after signing a new two-year deal, he was contacted by the Cork senior football management and the rest they say is history.

He came on as Corks first sub in the 43rd minute replacing Colm O Callaghan and inter played between midfield and the full forward line. The game having gone to extra time and Cork one point in arrears Sean Meehan raced up the field

but was quickly surrounded by Kerry men he quickly recycled and Luke Connolly sent a high lobbing ball in to the square which Mark gathered and coolly slotted the ball past the Kerry goalkeeper as all of Cork county joined Maurice Shanley dancing around kitchens and sitting rooms as the Tadgh Murphy’s exploits of 1983 haunted Kerry once more. Well done Mark as you now join with Chris Ryan, Michael O Brien Senior, Liam Power, Mick Burke, Michael O Brien Jnr, Ned Coughlan Mickie Mullins and Mick Beston to wear the red and white of Cork and senior football championship. Contrary to rumours circulating Mark Keane did not shout to Tommy Walsh that he had found Fungi to put him off.

Rebel Bounty Launch Shortly

The Cork Gaa clubs draw as it was previously known is being revamped and was hoped to launch in Oct but due to the Corna Virus pandemic this has been deferred until late 2020 or early 2021. The draw which will have all cash prizes has first prize of €20,000 each month culminating in a top prize of €100,000 will commence on the weekend of February 27 th /28 th with two draws. One major change to this draw is that entries will close on March 24 th. Patrons who are on direct debit in the old Gaa clubs draw will automatically transfer over to the new draw and those who pay yearly we will be in contact shortly to collect same. The new format will run from January to December with an all cash

prized fund of over €500,000. For less than two Euro a week not a bad investment considering the potential return. Tickets are available from club officers.

Votes Of Sympathy

The club extends its sympathy to the Molan Family on the passing of their Mam Breda. May she rest in peace.
