Indiependence Festival A Huge Loss

The announcement that the Indiependence music festival which graced the town over the August weekend is to be no more was huge blow not only to the town but to the numerous clubs and organisations to which it contributed to. The festival which was taken over by Indiependence in 2006 when it was ran as a fee concert in New Square and had grown from strength over the past 15 years. The contribution both directly and indirectly to the local economy will be felt for many years to come. To Shane, John, Kieran, Mark, Mike and all the crew a sincere thank you from all at Mitchelstown GAA and hopefully you will be able to return sometime in the future.

Rebel Bounty

The Cork Gaa clubs draw as it was previously known is being revamped and was hoped to launch in Oct but due to the Corona Virus pandemic this has been deferred until late 2020 or early 2021. The draw which will have all cash prizes has first prize of €20,000 each month culminating in a top prize of €100,000. Patrons who are on direct debit in the old Gaa clubs draw will automatically transfer over to the new draw and those who pay yearly we will be in contact shortly to collect same.

Cork V Kerry

Cork and Kerry will meet in the Munster Senior football championship at Pairc Ui Chaoimh this coming Saturday. At the time of going to press Mitchelstown Gaa club have three players namely Cathal O Mahony,Mark Keane and Sean Walsh training with the panel and hopefully Mitchelstown will have another name to add to the following  who played senior football  for Cork, Chris Ryan, Michael O Brien Senior, Liam Power, Mick Burke, Michael O Brien Jnr,  Ned Coughlan Mickie Mullins and the last man to play current secretary Mick Beston in 1985

U14 County Champions 30 Years on

As we enter the month of November we remember back to 1990 when after a replay our u14 footballers won a rare county when they defeated St Finbarrs after a replay. The drawn game was played on St Fanahan’s and it is well known that selectors Miko McGrath, George Donegan and Kieran Cotter brought water from the well for the lads at half time. It should be noted that Kieran and Mark mentioned above with Indiependence feature in that team which can be seen in the attached photo.

Votes Of Sympathy

The club extends its sympathy to James Flynn and family on the death of his mother Nora in Ballygar Co Galway, also to the Conway family Dun Na Ri Barrack Rd and formerly of Liam Lynch Park on the passing of Pakie. May they rest in peace.
