Mitchelstown too strong for Mayfield

Mitchelstown 0-17 Mayfield 2-03

Mitchelstown advance to a Bon Secours Cork IFC quarter-final where they will meet Kinsale, following an impressive win over Mayfield in Fermoy last Saturday night. Mitchelstown started the game very lively and had Mayfield pinned down in the opening 10 minutes but some very wayward shooting meant they had only 2 points to show for it and when Mayfield goaled in the 12th minute, they found themselves behind by a point. But again Town finished the half strongly points by Pa Magee, Jim Sheehan and Cathail O'Mahoney to leave Mitchelstown leading at half-time 0-8 to 1-02.

Mitchelstown continued when they left off at the end of first half, some great scores by Shane Cahill, Darragh Flynn, Sheehan and O'Mahoney had Mitchelstown leading by 8 with 20 minutes remaining. There was no way back for Mayfield now, with further points by Aaron O'Brian and Shane Beston had Town 11 points clear. Mayfield kept battling and added a goal and a point in the closing minutes leaving Mitchelstown 8 points to the good. While the management team will be happy to be back in a quarter-final, they also will have to improve significantly in some areas but overall it was another competent performance by everybody.

Team: L Hanna, K Roche, F Herlihy, L Finn, G Carroll, S Beston (0-1), P Molloy, S Walsh, C English, P Magee (0-1), M Walsh (0-1). S O'Sullivan (0-1),J Sheehan (0-3), S Cahill (0-1), C O'Mahoney (0-8). Subs A O'Brien (0-1), D Flynn (0-1).
