Lockdown Extended to May 5th
With the announcement that the lockdown is extended to at least May 5th it raises serious concerns as to whether the Gaa season will get off the ground for 2020. We still urge people to stay apart to stay safe as health is more important in the long term.
Gaa Digital Archive
The Gaa in conjunction with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland have launched the Gaa Digital Archive which will provide free access to past Gaa matches to internet users around the world. 113 All Ireland Finals since and provincial finals from 1961 are included in the archive. This new archive also features All Ireland club finals club finals since 1989.In all over 500 matches with information such as results, venue, referee, scorers, teams and substitutions were added. Mitchelstown The Early Years and First County Title Â
Mitchelstown Gaa Club came in to being in 1887 four years after the birth of the association. The club was named Mitchelstown Blackthorns with John Mandeville as president. Though Mitchelstown was affiliated to the County Board they did not feature in the county draws from 1887 to 1895, its geographical location o0n the northern extremity of the county a determining factor. They played in many tournaments in Kildorrery, Kilworth Fermoy, Kilbehenny,  Ballylanders, Galbally,  Tipperasry Town , Clogheen and Ballyporeen. Mitchelstown’s first appearance in the county championship was against neighbours Kildorrery. Which they won 2-2 to 1-1. Mitchelstown made irregular appearances in the county championship for the next number of years until 1911 which was the year, they  recorded there first of four county championship.  Victories over Fermoy, Crosshaven, and St Nick’s saw them against William O Brien’s in the final. The team was as follows, Michael O Sullivan, J O Hanlon, Bob Keyes, D Fenton, J Norris, C Ryan, M Daly Boland, J Teehan, W J Ryan, J Murphy, T Grenane, R Ryan, C O Mahony, Jas Ryan, M Downey, Bill Pollard. Six of the team helped Cork to win its first ever Munster Junior title. They were Chris Ryan, J O Hanlon, B Keyes, D Fenton, J Norris, and Michael O Sullivan.
