Mitchelstown Take The Points In Opening League Game Of The Campaign

Mitchelstown 4 09

Ballinora 2 10

Mitchelstown Opened Their League Campaign With A Hard Fought 5 Point Win Over Their Mid Cork Rivals Ballinora Last Sunday Morning At The Limerick Rd Venue .  With The Weather Clearing And The Pitch Drying Out The Under-foot Conditions Were Very Tough For Both Sides And A Good Hard Game Of Football Was Witnessed By The Good Crowd That Attended.

Mitchelstown Started The Better And Straight From The Off Were On The Attack Only For Some Poor Decision Making And Shooting Failed To Capitalise Liam Keane Pointed A Well Taken Free On The 5th Minute This Was Followed By A Dave Dinnen Point On The 6th Min Ballinora Opened Their Scoring On The 8th Min With A Superb Point By The Full Forward Dylan Price Responded Straight Away With An Excellent Point Straight From A Quick Kick Out Ballinora Were On The Attack But The Move Was Broken By Some Good Defending A Good Pass By Stephen Fox To Brick Walsh To Pa Magee Was Fisted To The Net By Shane Cahill To Put Mitchelstown 5 Points Ahead Liam Keane Followed The Goal With A Great Individual Point On The 14th Min But Then Minutes Later Shane Cahill Got His Marching Orders And Was Sent To The Line After Receiving Two Yellow Cards Leaving The Ref With No Choice.

This Unsettled Mitchelstown And Ballinora Took Control Adding Points On The 15th 16th& 18th Min To Close The Gap To I Point Ballinora Kept Coming Forward But For Some Great Defending By The Full Back Line Especially Barry Coffey Kept Ballinora At Bay A Good Move By Sean O Sullivan To Liam Keane Was Finished By Dylan Price On The 22nd Min Was Quickly Followed By A Jim Sheehan Point On The 24th Min Ballinora Finished Off The Scoring With A Point On The 30th Min To Leave The Score 1 06 To 0 5 The Opening Minutes Of The 2nd Half Were Tough With Ballinora Piling On The Pressure And The Extra Man Looking Like Taking Its Toll But The Mitchelstown Team Were Working Very Hard And Some Great Defending By The Backs Killian Roche Diarmuid Molan & James Mullins Kept Ballinora At Bay And They Failed To Score Which Gave Mitchelstown Great Heart A Long Ball Delivered From Midfield Was Caught Inside By Full Forward Mark Keane Who Turned The Full Back And Slotted The Ball To The Back Of The Net To Leave 7 Between The Sides But Back Came Ballinora A Pointed Free On The 42nd Min Was Quickly Followed A Goal And Then On The 47th Min A Well Taken Point Had The Gap Reduced To 2 Points And All To Play For In The Closing 10 Min.

On The 51st Min A Great Move By Mitchelstown Starting From The Full Back Line By Roche To Dinnen Who Pinpointed A Great Pass To Keane In The Full Forward Line Who Finished It To The Ballinora Net A Ballinora Point Followed And They Pressing Forward Scored A Good Goal On The 55th Min To Reduce The Gap Back To 2 Points To Leave A Very Tense Last 5 Min But To Be Fair Our Lads They Were Not Going To Leave The Points Behind With Ballinora Pressing A Turnover By Stephen Fox Was Delivered To Mark Keane Who Sent A Great Pass To The Brick Walsh Who Sidestepped The Keeper And Finally Put An End To The Ballinora Challenge. It Was Great To Get The Two Points In A Tough Physical Match Especially Been Reduced To 14 Early Also Losing Sean O Sullivan To An Injury At Half Time The Selectors Will Be Delighted By The Effort By All 21 Who Played, Especially The Work Rate Off The Ball In The 2nd Half Was Honest And Had To Be Done To Secure The Points .
