GAA President Christy Cooney was in Mitchelstown on Friday November 6 to officially launch a fascinating new book detailing the history of the local GAA club.

The book, part of the celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the GAA, was launched at a function in the Firgove Hotel.

Written by well-known GAA commentator Bob Honohan, The Mitchelstown Blackthorns Story takes readers on a journey through the club’s fascinating history, recalling some of the characters and events that have gone down in club lore.

The launch of the book was a special night with many former players and club members attending.

Formed in 1887 under the presidency of John Mandeville , Mitchelstown GAA club is one of the oldest in the country and boasts a long and distinguished history of achievement on the playing field.
