Mitchelstown cruise past Kinsale to reach semi-finals
Mitchelstown 3-20 Kinsale 2-10
Mitchelstown travelled to Carrigtwohill last weekend in good spirits having topped the pool after winning their opening 3 games. It was a beautiful day for football and the pitch was in excellent condition. Mitchelstown started very quickly and had the opening point from Shane Cahill in the 2nd min. Further points by Cathail O'Mahony and 'Brick Walsh bad Mitchelstown 4 points to the good in the 8th minute, then a wonderful move involving Colin English and Jim Sheehan was finished to the Kinsale net by Sean O'Sullivan. This had Mitchelstown well in control further points by English, Walsh and O'Mahony had Mitchelstown out of sight, leading by 9 after 15 minutes.
Shane Cahill came off injured and was replaced by Aaron O'Brien, who immediately made an impact with a well taken point. Kinsale found it very hard to break down the Mitchelstown defence which was excellently marshalled by Sbane Beston and goalkeeper Luke Hanna. Kinsale finished the half stronger and rattled off 3 points in the closing minutes of the half, leaving Mitchelstown leading 1-15 to 0-4. Kinsale started the 2nd half the quicker and piled on the pressure. 2 points by their midfielder and then in the 38th minute they were awarded a soft penalty, which was converted by the Kinsale midfielder Gearoid Finn to reduce the gap to 10. Mitchelstown responded well to the threat of a Kinsale comeback, points by Sean Walsh and Darragh Flynn got Mitchelstown back in their stride and thein in the 45th minute a great goal by substitute Aaron O'Brien finished the game as a contest.
Further points by Sheehan, O'Mahony and O'Brien in the 50th, 52nd and 54th minutes had Kinsale reeling and then Aaron O'Brien sealed a great day for him self when he bagged a 2nd goal in the 58th minute, leaving Mitchelstown to run out easy winners in a great performance by all, we meet Aghabollogue in the semis a team that has been to 2 finals and a semi and a hard, tough outfit. The management will be delighted to be back in the semis again, they will be disappointed that they conceded 2-10, also hoping little niggles of injuries clear up.
