Mitchelstown were beaten by a late goal in this years Intermediate Football Championship 1st Round in Mallow last Sunday.
The conditions were horrendous with heavy Rain and a strong wind blowing across the field. Mitchelstown won the Toss and played with the strong wind and were straight into attack a missed chance by Micheal Walsh in the 3 rd min was followed by 2 quick scores by Cathal O Mahoney and Jim Sheehan in the 5 Th and 6 th min then on the 10th min mowers turned over the in Defence and was duly punished with a goal by the opposition the response from MItchelstown was good a good move between O Mahoney and Beston ended with Beston been dragged to the ground and a penalty rewarded which Cathal OMahoney duly converted onthe 17 th min a OMahoney point were quickly cancelled out by two quick points by Aghabullogue to leave MITCHELSTOWN ahead by 1 entering the last 5 min of the half A good move ended with a an O Mahoney point and Sean O Sullivan completed the Scoring for mitchelstown on the 30th min with a well taken point to leave Mitchelstown 3 ahead at Half Time now having to face the strong wind in the 2nd half it was going to be a tall order Aghabullogue started very strongly they had the gap reduced to a point within 4 min with two quick points and on the 5min only for a brave save from Luke Hanna kept Town in front Aghabullogue got to level the match on the 14 min and went ahead on the 17th min MItchelstown were battling hard two good moves were sent wide when some composure was needed but Town were battling hard a Jim Sheehan point onthe 22 Nd min had Mitchelstown level it was frantic stuff with every ball been fought for a Jim Sheehan pointed free had Mitchelstown in front on the 24th min a missed point by Sean Walsh on the 25th min to stretch the lead Mitchelstown we’re defending well with some great tackles and turning the ball over then the turning point of the game a loose pass out of Defense was capatilised on and was finished to the net by Aghabullogue to put them 2 points ahead on the 29th min they duly added another point in injury time to run out deserving winners Team L Hanna G Carroll S Fox BCoffee O Burke P Magee P Molloy L Flynn S Walsh C O Mahoney (1 04)S O Sullivan (0 1) M Walsh S Beston S Cahill J Sheehan Subs Liam Keane 25th min Lar Flynn injured K Roche for B Coffey injured 50th min

Mitchelstown travelled back to Killshanigh last Wensday week to play a combination of Knocknagree and Boherbue in a County Leauge Minor semi final while conditions were very cold the pitchwas in excellent condition while not fancied by many it did not look good in the opening 10 min when Knocknagree went into a 5 point lead but Mitchelstown stuck in there and when Aron o Brian goaledto put them level after 15 min Mitchelstown never looked back they went in at Half Time leading by 3 points Knocknagree came out in 2nd half and really had a go at mitchelstown they were level after 10 min 2nd half and looked in control but the town lads refused to give in a great goal by Leon Murphy had Town back in front and as hard as the opposition tried they could never get on terms with this sported mitchelstown outfit and Town ran out Winners by 5 points to reach the final This Team mitchelstown team showed great bottleand determination and will to win well done Trainers John Donegan and Kieran Cotter who have put some good time and work into them no Date for Final yetTeam J Finn J Clancy S O Connell C Keane P Finn S Coleman SHoward R Donegan T Millea S Kennelly C Hyland L Murphy CBronnick A O Brian P Hannraghan
