MITCHELSTOWN AND AHERLOW FACED EACH OTHER LAST SUNDAY MORNING IN A CHALLENGE MATCH IN LIMERICK RD ON SHORT NOTICE AS OUR LEAUGE GAME V BALLYDESMOND WAS CANCELLED BY THE OPPOSITION IT WILL BE RESQUEDUALED ON A LATER DATE THE CONDITIONS WERE TOUGH ON ONE SIDE OF THE PITCH THE SUN WAS OUT AND THE OTHER IT WAS BALTIC LIKE BUT DRY MITCHELSTOWN STARTED THE STRONGER A GREAT CATCH BY LAR FLYNN WAS QUICKLY DISPATCHED INTO THE VERY LIVELY DYLAN PRICE WHO TURNED AND TWISTED HIS MARKER AND KICKED A GREAT SCORE TO PUT TOWN IN FRONT ON THE 3RD MINUTE WE WERE WELL ON TOP IN THE OPENING 10 MIN BUT SOME VERY POOR SHOOTING AND DECISION MAKING MADE SURE WE DID NOT KEEP THE SCOREBOARD TICKING OVER THIS WILL ALWAYS GIVE THE OPPOSITION A LIFT AND AHERLOW TOOK ADVANTAGE AND KICKED TWO EXCELLENT SCORES ON THE 11TH & 13TH MIN TO PUT THE TIPP OUTFIT AHEAD A VERY GOOD SAVE BY CATHAL O SULLIVAN IN GOALS KEPT AHERLOW OUT BUT A GOOD POINT ON THE 16TH MIN PUT AHERLOW 2 AHEAD TIPP BOYS WERE ON TOP AND ONLY SOME GOOD DEFENDING BY KILLIAN ROCHE AND BARRY COFFEY KEPT AHERLOW AT BAY MITCHELSTOWN RESPONDED WELL WITH WELL TAKEN POINT BY JIM SHEEHAN ON THE 17TH MIN TO REDUCE THE GAP TO 1 BUT JUST BEFORE HALF TIME AHERLOW ADDED A POINT TO LEAVE THE SCORE 0 4 T0 0 2 MITCHELSTOWN STARTED THE 2ND HALF THE QUICKER AGAIN A WELL TAKEN POINT BY GEORGE PENDLE AND A DYLAN PRICE FREE HAD THE TEAMS LEVEL MITCHELSTOWN WERE PLAYING WELL NOW AND ON TOP AROUND THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD WITH BRICK WALSH AND A DONEGAN GETTING ON A LOT OF BALL AND SUPPLYING THE FULL FORWARD LINE WITH GOOD BALL POINTS BY LUKE HANNA & BRICK WALSH HAD TOWN 3 AHEAD WITH 15 MINUTES REMAINING BUT BACK CAME AHERLOW A RESPONDED WITH 2 POINTS OF THEIR OWN TO LEAVE A POINT BETWEEN THE SIDES TWO JIM SHEEHAN POINTS RESTORED 3 POINT CUSHION ENTERING LAST 10 MINUTES A WELL WORKED POINT BY MITCHELSTOWN INVOLVING 4 PLAYERS WAS EVENTUALLY FINISHED OFF BY STEPHEN FOX TO KEEP TOWNS NOSES IN FRONT AS HARD AS AHERLOW TRIED IN THE DYING MINUTES THEY COULD NOT BREAK DOWN THE TOWN DEFENCE AND MITCHELSTOWN RAN OUT WINNERS BY 3 THE SELECTORS WILL BE QUIET HAPPY WITH THE EFFORT OF THE LADS WHO TRIED TO A MAN AND KEPT GOING FOR THE WHOLE GAME SOME POOR DECISION MAKING AND SHOOTING WERE THE ONLY NEGATIVES AS THIS WAS ONLY THEIR 2ND GAME THIS YEAR DUE TO THE BAD WEATHER IMPROVEMENT CAN BE EXPECTED AND WILL BE NEEDED IF THEY ARE TO BEAT KINSALE WHO HAVE STARTED VERY WELL IN THE LEAUGE WITH WINNING BOTH GAMES TEAM C O SULLIVAN B COFFEY K ROCHE J IRWINE S FOX (0 1) S 0 SULLIVAN L FLYNN G PENDLE (0 2) M WALSH(0 1) J SHEEHAN (0 3) D PRICE (O 3) L KEANE L HANNA (0 1)

POBAL SCOIL KENMARE WERE COMFORTABLE WINNERS OVER MITCHELSTOWN C B S IN THE SENIOR MUNSTER SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AT BALLYVOURNEY ON SATURDAY THE C B S FIELDED WITHOUT TWO OF THEIR KEY PLAYER IN MARK KEANE AND JAMES KEATHING WHO WERE HUGH LOSES TO THE TEAM BUT TO BE FAIR TO KENMARE THEY HAD SOME WONDERFUL PLAYERS OF THEIR OWN WITH KERRY MINORS TADGH OSIOCHRU AND DONAL O SULLIVAN PROVING A HANDFUL ON THE DAY WHILE PLAYING AGAINST THE WIDE C B S HAD TO TAKE ALL THEIR CHANCES BUT THIS THEY FAILED TO DO AND WITH 2 SOFT GOALS CONCEDED THEY FOUND THEMSELVES 2 09 TO 0 5 DOWN AT HALF TIME A KENMARE GOAL AT THE START OF THE 2ND HALF ENDED ANY REAL HOPE OF VICTORY BUT TO BE FAIR TO MITCHELSTOWN THEY NEVER GAVE UP POINTS BY KILLIAN DOLLION CATHAL O MAHONEY AND CHRISTY ENGLISH &A GOAL BY DYLAN CONNOLLY REDUCED THE GAP TO 6 BUT COULD NOT SUSTAIN THE CHALLENGE AND IN THE END KENMARE RAN OUT DESERVING WINNERS TO WIN THEIR FIRST MUNSTER FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IT HAS TO BE SAID THAT THE C B S AQUITTED THEMSELVES VERY WELL AND SHOWED GREAT BATTLING QUALTIES NEVER GAVE UP AND PLAYED RIGHT TO THE END ALSO JUST TO MENTION THE GREAT SUPPORT THE BOYS HAD AND TO THE BALLYVOURNEY CLUB WHO HAD THE PITCH AND FACILITIES IN GREAT ORDER.
